Continence Specialist Nurse

Job/Role Summary

Participate in Nurse Led clinics (Trust wide), assessing and reviewing patients with bladder and bowel dysfunction.

Jointly hold management responsibility for the Continence Team.

Undertake training for Community Nursing staff, Health Care Assistants and Allied Health Professionals in Continence Related Issues.

Participate in Service Improvement.

Participate in Continuous Professional Development.

Specific qualifications and experience required

Degree

Post Grad qualification (desirable)

Continence stand alone Module

Undertaking of relevant e-learning (Continence Assessment, Catheterisation, DRE training)

NMC recordable Specialist Practice Qualification (since 2016 this is required to use the title Specialist)

Career Milestones

Undertaking District Nursing course.

Undertaking further study in Continence/ Urology

Being appointed as Band 7

Have utilised Community Information system (PARIS) very successfully, achieving virtually paperless service.
