Clinical Practice

Most nurses and midwives choose to work in a role which enables them to deliver direct patient and client care. The numerous pathways available lead to a wide variety of areas and levels of practice and settings in which to work. As a nurse or midwife you can also choose to specialise in an area of practice or different areas of practice during your career and/or work at an advanced practice level or as a consultant nurse or consultant midwife. We want to build and support our clinical staff, providing continuous professional development opportunities and support at every level across the HSC in Northern Ireland.

Whether you are a nurse or midwife thinking about progressing further along the clinical practice career pathway, or wishing to work at a specialist, advanced or consultant nurse/midwife level, the information below will guide you on the next steps to take.
